The multi-national company FedEx, Liège Airport's main customer, has unveiled a direct route from Liège to Memphis. This new air route, which connects TNT's European hub to the FedEx world hub, confirms the company's investment in Liège Airport.
This link will shorten delivery times to the American continent, a real benefit in the world of express delivery. "What matters is the speed of delivery, the reliability of delivery, the ability to move quickly, to collect a package from a supplier and deliver to an end customer as quickly as possible. This flight will shorten delivery times between Europe, the United States and Canada", explains Jean Muls, Vice-President of FedEx Europe.
Also, on Thursday 20 April on the unveiling of the Liège-Memphis route that now connects the European continent to the United States, David Binks, President of FedEx Express Europe and CEO of TNT announced that "By incorporating TNT into its core business, FedEx wants to invest in Liege Airport over the long-term".
FedEx wants to consolidate its position as world leader through this incorporation of TNT's European hub but also position itself in a thriving sector due to digital and the development of networks requiring logistics solutions.
The company will also invest in personnel, new technologies and the airport's capacities "which will, from November 2017 be the most efficient hub in Europe since its capacity will have increased by 30%", Mr Binks also announced, thus confirming the American company's commitment to investing in the future of Liège Airport.
President of Liège Airport, Marie-Dominique Simonet, is proud of FedEx's choice, "it strengthens the connectivity of Liège Airport, it improves its attractiveness and reinforces and increases employment across the site. The launch of FedEx's operations confirms Liege Airport's strategy in the cargo sector. It confirms the major economic role played by Liège Airport in its region which is part of the logistics centre of excellence."
Liège Airport is ready to support FedEx in all its developments with its exceptional benefits which include available space, the possibility to develop day and night flights, an unrivalled service quality and its location at the centre of Europe.
Finally, this would include adding 3 new destinations from the airport from this summer: a flight to London Stansted in August, a Liège-Basel-Geneva route in September and a 3rd flight where the cities served are still to be decided.
