A bimodal platform has just opened in Vaulx (Tournai), which will allow the loading and unloading of goods transported by boat. This is good news for the goods transport sector, in view of the constant growth in heavy goods traffic.

The logistics port currently has six warehouses spread over 8,000 m², a 13,000 m² handling zone, a parking area and a reception area. The second phase of the project, which has just started, will see the creation of another handling and storage zone of 18,000 m².

The project is funded by the company Dufour, which rents its installations and loads and unloads goods. "Our company transports 560,000 tonnes of goods a year" explains Frédéric Dufour, Managing Director. "This platform will allow us to double this figure in five years." The Head of Dufour also launched a partnership appeal to all transport and loading companies and trucking bosses.

In addition to the loading of bulk goods, Dufour also handles indivisible items, such as wind turbines.

This new port area marks another step towards the creation of a real river highway in Wallonia and even beyond, between France and northern Europe, through the Seine-Scheldt project.
