Wallonia by bike

You probably haven't noticed, but parking areas, charging points and bike shelters are being built pretty much everywhere in Wallonia. In fact, the government has set aside €1.13 million to equip Walloon tourism enterprises via a call for tender launched by the Commissariat Général au Tourisme (CGT) (General Tourism Commission) last December.

Tourists will be offered the opportunity to discover our region by hopping on their bikes with the rest of the family, with friends, or even by themselves.

Of the 140 bids which were submitted, the selection committee retained 117 based on the following criteria:

  • The originality of the project and respect for the quality of life, heritage and the environment;
  • the added value for the territory concerned - improvement of the cyclist-friendly aspect of the territory and the relevance of the project in terms of the development of cycle-tourism;
  • the creativity, design, and innovative enhancement;
  • the quality of the equipment (choice of supports and materials, robustness and durability) ;
  • the respect of technical criteria and different permits;
  • the quality of the partnerships and the touristic product in the context of acquiring bicycles.

Not forgetting the benefits felt by tourist organisations, B+Bs, museums and companies selling local produce, so they are not left out.

 We just need to hope some nice weather will return for a while.
