The Verviers-based company Nomacorc has decided to break into the cork wine closures market, but without the risk of bad taste. This company was nevertheless the origin of the synthetic cork, overshadowing this bad taste.
An amazing feat which is related to an innovation in wine closures. Indeed, it is comprised of pieces of cork-oak bark not consolidated using glue. Consequently, it is almost TCA-free, the molecule that threatens the wine's taste. This wine closure is entirely natural, biodegradable and recyclable.
"This wine closure called Sübr will be on sale from November", explains Caroline Thomas, European Marketing Communications Manager.
The company has united producers to offer a comprehensive range of bottle stoppers such as screw caps, glass stoppers, the Nomacorc synthetic wine closure and now also the glue-free cork. "In a wine cellar there are several types of wine closure. Each bottle must find the one that suits it. For example, Asian customers prefer cork", observes Caroline Thomas.
The research was conducted at Beologic, in Zwevegem, near Mouscron. However, a factory still needs to be built which will produce these wine closures on an industrial scale. Nothing has yet been decided with regards its location, but the plan is to produce 500 million wine closures by 2021.
