A few days ago, the Géothermia site was opened in the region of Mons by IDEA (Intercommunale de Développement Economique et d'Aménagement du Coeur du Hainaut). This is the first economic business park in Belgium supplied by geothermal energy, namely the hot water in its subsoil, all other Belgian business parks are supplied with gas. Façozinc will be the first company to move onto the site.
The Géothermia site extends over 40 hectares to the west of Mons and is directly linked to the E19-E42 motorway.
The companies that base themselves there will use the hot water drawn from a depth of 2,500 metres from the subsoil of Mons to heat their buildings, using the network set up in the area and can also use it for industrial processes. Carbon neutral heating.
IDEA and the city of Mons are counting on the creation of 800 jobs across this business park which heralds the emergence of a new generation of parks focused on sustainable development.
This inauguration took place at the same time as the laying of the first stone of the Façozinc company, the first candidate company to move onto the business park site. Specialising in the fields of production and distribution of roofing materials designed for professionals, Façozinc currently has eight offices in Wallonia and employs around one hundred workers. The Mons-based office is eventually intended to employ around thirty people. Façozinc plans to establish its "sustainable construction" competence centre on the business park.
