The surfing event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will have a Walloon touch. A company from Wallonia has been awarded the contract to install the marquees. Schreiber company boss Marc Fabry tells us what goes on behind the scenes of this Olympic adventure.

Schreiber, a company based in Lontzen, Wallonia, will be taking part in the surfing events organized in Tahiti from July 27 to 31 for the Olympic Games. It has won a contract with the Paris 2024 organizers to install marquees.

We've had a distributor in Tahiti for several years. His name is Hanavai. It was together that we responded to the invitation to tender and won the contract. It's a source of pride to be involved in an event like the Olympic Games,” says Marc Fabry, head of Schreiber.

Paris 2024's specifications were particularly precise. They had to supply and install a dozen marquees and a dozen pagodas with sport-specific fittings. Schreiber built the aluminum structures and made the tarpaulins for the pagodas and tents in its Lontzen workshops.

A total of 6 containers of equipment were shipped to French Polynesia. “We had to be very vigilant in terms of deadlines, as the situation there is turbulent in terms of goods transport,” explains our contact. The Schreiber marquees will be used to shelter the athletes during the events.

“Thank you AWEX”

With this Olympic contract, the Walloon company once again proves its ability to export its products to the four corners of the globe. “Wallonia is beautiful, but it only has 3 million inhabitants. So we export a lot, and we're lucky enough to work with several distributors around the world. For the past 20 years, we've been able to count on the support of AWEX. Out of the 100 people who work for the company, we've been able to hire around ten thanks to AWEX support. It's important to say it, because it's a real help for companies”, testifies Marc Fabry, who took over the company some twenty years ago.
