To mark the 20th anniversary of the cooperation agreement with Haiti, Wallonia-Brussels International and Les Halles de Schaerbeek came together to commission a new creation from Maksaens Denis, an internationally-renowned video maker and digital artist.
Last July, the artist filmed the Vodou ceremonies of Saut d’Eau, during which thousands of pilgrims gathered near a sacred waterfall. These images and sounds, which have been edited and remixed, form the substance of a multimedia installation that will be completed during a creative residency at Les Halles, in September. A slender tower covered with flat screens, wrapped like a Pake Kongo, will serve as the backdrop for this new creation: Le Chuchotement des étoiles.
A homage to Haiti and to its culture, closely tied to nature and a globalised world, Le Chuchotement des étoiles will be on show from 5 to 27 October, daily from 9 a.m., during VISIONS, where you will also be able to see several major installations, including the Matrix and its liquid pixels, and the holograms of l’Enfer (Inferno). You will find the complete programme on the Les Halles website: www.halles.be
