Paris 2024 Olympics: Paix Dieu beer honored at Belgium House

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a Walloon beer is featured at the Lotto Belgium House. It's Paix Dieu from Brasserie Caulier.

The Olympic Games are in full swing in Paris from Friday July 26 to August 11. For the duration of the competition, Belgium will be celebrated at the Lotto Belgium House, a stone's throw from the Champs Elysées. Wallonia will be in the spotlight during the Wallonia-Brussels Days from August 7 to 11.

For the occasion, a Walloon beer has been selected and will be served at the Belgium House: Paix Dieu from Brasserie Caulier (Péruwelz).

“We were approached to see if we would be willing to present Paix Dieu at the Belgium House. As the Olympic Games correspond to our values, we accepted without hesitation. It's the first time we've taken part in this kind of event. The fact that it's in Paris was also a factor in our decision. France is an important market for us,” comments Quentin Lambert, Sales Manager for Brasserie Caulier, based in Péruwelz.

Brasserie Caulier is a family-run brewery established in 1996. Roger Caulier, the founder, was a drinks merchant for the hotel and catering trade, and a beer enthusiast. In 1996, he decided to give up his trading activity and start brewing beer with Bon Secours, named after the village from which the Caulier family hails. After a more complicated period, Roger Caulier's children (Laurent, Bertrand and Vincent) decided to take over the brewery and launch Paix Dieu and Stuut. Today, the Caulier brewery brews three different beers.

Paix Dieu, the brewery's flagship beer

Paix Dieu was an obvious choice for the Olympic Games. “La Paix Dieu is our flagship brewery. It represents 85% of the brewery's sales, and the French market accounts for 70% of our sales. It's a fairly young beer since it was created in 2012 and is in full development. Our aim is to export it throughout France. We decided to finish in Paris. It's perfect timing. It's an opportunity to let more people taste our beer,” continues Quentin Lambert.

What's special about Paix Dieu? It's a triple ale that's quite strong at 10 degrees alcohol. “But it's very well-balanced. You don't feel too much alcohol. The main quality of this beer is that it appeals as much to a broad public who drink a beer now and then, as to a public of experts”, Quentin Lambert proudly points out.

While the French market is the most important for the Caulier brewery, Paix Dieu is also exported to the Netherlands. “And we're starting to export a little to Switzerland, Italy and Spain. The aim is to export to Europe, but we're not aiming for Asia or the United States,” concludes Quentin Lambert.
