Positioning infrastructure

Joël van Cranenbroeck, Managing Director of CGEOS - CREATIVE GEOSENSING, decided to revitalise the positioning infrastructures, particularly the WALCORS network which, with 23 permanent GNSS stations in Wallonia, allows high-precision positioning for the GNSS receptors capable of calculating their position in RTK mode.

After a second modernisation phase (adding GLONASS, the Russian constellation, to the receipt and processing of signals), the third phase will no doubt involve considering the Chinese constellation BEIDOU. WALCORS is administrated by the SPW (Walloon Public Service) but maintenance has been entrusted to the company Leica Geosystems, whose head office is in Flanders (Diegem).

We have acquired considerable experience in this technology since 2001, setting up more than 1,000 permanent GPS and GNSS stations around the world, thanks to our experience with WALCORS. At the CGEOS office in Mont (Yvoir), the QIAO (which means 'bridge' in Chinese) GNSS signal tracking station is a wonderful example of our skills. It is the very first tracking station to capture B1, B2 and B3 signals from the new Chinese BEIDOU constellation.
