The Ringer brothers won the Best Screenplay Award for Birds of Passage at the closing ceremony of the Skip City International D-Cinema Film Festival in Kawaguchi on Sunday, 24 July.
This 22nd award is another step in an exceptional record in international festivals, including the festivals of Kineko in Japan, Giffoni in Italy, Zlin in the Czech Republic, Films for children (FIFEM) in Montreal and Buster in Copenhagen.
Birds of Passage follows the initiatory journey of Cathy, who is given an egg to hatch for her tenth birthday. When a duckling breaks out of the shell in the presence of her best friend, Margaux, it is convinced that the little girl is its Mummy. But Margaux is not able to look after a baby duck; she is stuck in a wheelchair and will soon have to go and live in an institution. Her parents decide to get rid of the bird. And when Cathy and Margaux learn that the duck will no doubt finish up in a tin can, they launch themselves into a journey which will teach them far more about themselves than how to save a web-footed bird.
