The famous Michelin red guide has awarded its coveted stars to chefs in Belgium and Luxembourg. Several Walloon chefs distinguished themselves, including Quentin Gallopyn, chef at the Vicomté restaurant in Roucourt, who received the Michelin Young Chef 2025 award.
It's a moment that is always eagerly awaited by gourmet restaurant chefs. The Michelin Red Guide has unveiled the 2025 awards for Belgium and Luxembourg.
"The 2025 selection for Belgium and Luxembourg vividly reflects a constantly evolving culinary scene. We are witnessing the emergence of a new generation of talent, the culinary affirmation of established establishments, and the launch of new projects by established chefs. Together, they make up a mosaic of gastronomic expressions that are both singular and resolutely uninhibited. Whether based on tradition or driven by innovation, the distinguished establishments surprise, delight and inspire. Our inspectors took great pleasure in (re)discovering these restaurants, whose creativity and commitment make this selection particularly striking," says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.
And Wallonia takes pride of place in this new edition. First of all, chef Quentin Gallopyn, of the Vicomté restaurant in Roucourt, receives the MICHELIN Young Chef 2025 award. "I wasn't expecting it at all. It's a nice surprise," said Quentin Gallopyn, 27, at the official ceremony. He also wins his first star.
Laurent Dierickx, of the restaurant Les Frères Louise in Ellezelles, was awarded the MICHELIN Sommelier prize. “A history buff, this professional knows how to captivate his customers by showing off his knowledge or by proposing flasks or combinations that are off the beaten track”, comments Michelin.
For several years now, the Michelin guide has been awarding a green star to promote the initiatives of pioneering restaurants fully committed to a genuine gastronomic transition. The “Sophie & Nicolas” restaurant in Comblain-la-Tour has been awarded this distinction. "I'm delighted. It's a reward for working hand in hand with producers," commented Nicolas Septon at the awards ceremony.
Four Walloon restaurants earn their first star
The red guide has rewarded the talent of young chefs in Wallonia, with four chefs earning their first star. In addition to Quentin Gallopyn, already mentioned, the MICHELIN guide awarded a star to François-Xavier Simon, at Bistrot Blaise in Marche-en-Famenne. “He has established himself as a generous craftsman who combines the delicacy of French cuisine with excellent modern techniques,” says the MICHELIN. Curtis Maquet also received a star for his restaurant Beau Rivage by Curtis in Dave, Namur. These two chefs had already been honored last November by the other famous gastronomic guide Gault & Millau.
In Comblain-au-Pont, Maxime Zimmer, chef of the restaurant Un Max de Goût, added a first star to his chef's jacket. “He highlights the work of local artisans and producers, with a focus on products and controlled creativity”, says the guide.
BIB Gourmand
The BIB Gourmand rewards establishments that represent excellence at affordable prices. Wallonia has seven newcomers in this category. They are Wan Thai Food in Châtelet, La Maison Thai in Ouffet, Table et Vin in Mont-sur-Marchienne, La Petite Gayole in Thuillies, Emulsion in Floriffoux, Sébastian in Liège and Bagù in Thuin.
