On 24 June 2018, the automobile manufacturer Gillet, builder of Supercars since 1992, will take part in the legendary "Pikes Peak" race in Colorado (United States) with its famous Vertigo car that will be in the capable hands of the Belgian driver Vanina Ickx.
The Pikes Peak is held on the last Sunday in June each year, a car race that follows the coastline and then heads to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado. This route was laid out in 1915 and the first race was held in 1916, which makes it one of the oldest in America and the 4th in the world in terms of media coverage.
Already used to sporting feats, with the world record for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 1994 and the three-time FIA GT Champion in G2, the automotive designer Tony Gillet is ready for the Pikes Peak challenge. His star creation, the Vertigo, is considered to be a genuine work of art in the automotive sector, with its design and manufacturing of parts in carbon and a power-to-weight ratio of about 2 kg.
For the occasion, and for the company's 25th anniversary, Gillet Automobiles have decided to prepare a vehicle almost identical to the first models but which will have one major new feature: the bodywork will be in linen not carbon. A well-known Belgian name in the world of motor sports has been chosen to drive it: Ickx, and more specifically Vanina, the daughter of the famous Jacky Ickx, the former F1 World Championship runner-up.
In addition to the prestige that this race will offer it, the intention of the automotive designer from Namur is to break into the American market and, soon, be able to announce new developments for the brand.
