New metro trainsets in Peru thanks to Alstom

Alstom has signed a contract worth approximately 200 million euros with Graña y Montero Ferrovias to supply 120 Metropolis cars (20 trainsets) for line 1 of the Lima metro and 19 new cars to supplement existing trainsets already in service on the same line. Delivery of the 139 Metropolis cars is scheduled to be completed by 2019. The Charleroi site is responsible for designing the traction system.

The Lima metro line 1 is 34 km-long and includes 26 stations. It crosses the city from the South at "Villa El Salvador" to the North at "San Juan de Lurigancho". The number of passengers, which has been growing since the line opened in 2011, is about 320,000 per day.

With the 20 new Metropolis trainsets, each comprised of six cars and the 19 cars that will lengthen the trainsets from five cars to six, Graña y Montero Ferrovias will more than double the current transportation capacity, from 20,000 to 48,000 passengers per hour.

"We would like to thank Graña y Montero Ferrovias for another vote of confidence. With this new order, more passengers will be able to commute aboard a metro solution that is reliable, comfortable and environmentally friendly. Well established in the Latin American region, we are committed to making this project a success and supporting Peru and the region with their different mobility projects", stated Michel Boccaccio, Senior Vice President Alstom Latin America.
