NOMICS: A revolution in sleep apnea diagnosis!

At the Casa Valonia economic mission in Malaga, Adeline Constant, Sales Support at NOMICS, shared valuable insights into the impact of their innovative technology in the field of sleep disorders. With an easy-to-use, high-performance solution, NOMICS aims to transform the medical diagnostics landscape in Spain.

An innovative device for a public health problem

NOMICS, a Walloon MedTech based in Liège, specializes in the diagnosis of sleep apnea, a disorder that affects 20% of the population in Spain, and 50% of the population who remain undiagnosed. With a technology developed by two engineers, NOMICS has designed a device that enables patients to carry out a diagnostic test at home, offering an effective alternative to polysomnography performed in hospital. Thanks to innovative sensors that measure mandibular activity, the results obtained at home are comparable to those of a hospital test, reducing overcrowding in health services.

“Behind this product, we'll find a platform thanks to which the developers have set up an algorithm that enables data to be analyzed fairly quickly. When the patient has done his test at home and brings the device back to the hospital, the doctor can plug it in and get a report back in five minutes with the analysis of all the signals and already have a kind of conclusion and 'smart suggestion', as we call it in relation to the patient's diagnosis”, explains Adeline Constant, Sales Support at Nomics.

An expansion strategy for the Spanish market

NOMICS' presence on the Spanish market, although already established through a distributor focusing on ENT, marks a key step in their expansion strategy. Adeline Constant had the opportunity to meet healthcare professionals, including pulmonologists and neurologists, to gauge their interest in the technology. The statistics in Spain are worrying: more than 4,000 people are waiting for a diagnosis in the Andalusian public network. This reality underlines the need for a fast, accessible solution, which NOMICS is proposing to provide.

Towards an e-health revolution and the hope of a change in reimbursement policies

NOMICS' innovation is perfectly in line with the current trend towards e-health and personalized medicine. “As far as e-health is concerned, what we notice is that the device has the advantage of being a diagnosis that can be made at home, easily. And then, it generates a report powered by artificial intelligence. Behind this device, there's a platform that runs with developers who work to ensure that it's really up to scratch, and who make sure that it's fed every time with new data that we can gather, with all the vigilance that we need to show when dealing with medical data, of course”, adds Adeline Constant.

NOMICS also plans to collaborate with policymakers to explore the possibilities of adapting reimbursement policies to this new technology. The aim is clear: to extend the reach of their product beyond Andalusia and potentially throughout Spain, taking account of regional specificities.

In short, NOMICS is not content to simply meet a local need, the company aspires to transform the healthcare landscape in Spain and beyond, thanks to a technology that could become a standard in sleep apnea diagnosis.
