Twenty-three Oscars were awarded during the Salon de l’Emballage (Packaging Exhibition), which takes place in Paris every two years, to packaging and wrapping professionals who have developed innovative products and technologies. One of the Oscar winners was Etilux, a Belgian company from Liège.

Although the winners included extremely prestigious brands such as L’Oréal, Urgo, Saint-Gobain and many others, it was a small enterprise from Liège that made a big impression. Elastocoin, a packaging product distributed by Etilux, won the 2014 Packaging Oscar in the "corrugated cardboard" category.

Elastocoin is a flexible corner protector. This packaging product was created in the Liège region in 2012 by Catherine Jamar and Luc Mairy and is designed to protect the corners of flat objects during transport and storage.

"Our company produces tailor-made packaging and was contacted by a designer wanting to package panels of different thicknesses. This designer could not find a solution among the standard products available. We therefore developed the Elastocoin; just one product can package ten different thicknesses", explained Catherine Jamar.

There are a number of advantages to this product. As well as being suitable for different-sized objects, it is economical (reusable) and ecological (made from recycled and recyclable materials). In 2013, it won the Greener Packaging Award in the designer category. Now, the young SME Jam&Ry and the product distributor, Etilux, are proud to have won the Packaging Oscar.
