A Walloon company (and member of the Photonics Cluster) has just won an award in Hollywood.
For the second time, Flying-Cam (from Oupeye, Liege) has received a Scientific and Engineering Award for its new unmanned aerial camera system, the Flying-Cam 3.0 SARAH. In 1995, the company won a technical Oscar for the first Flying-Cam.
If you’ve seen the latest James Bond film, Skyfall, and the motorcycle chase over the rooftops of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, then you might like to know that it was filmed with a camera on board a helicopter designed by Flying-Cam. The Flying-Cam system is used in over 1000 films in more than 75 countries, including Harry Potter, Mission Impossible, Transformers, The Da Vinci Code and The Smurfs.
The Scientific and Technical Awards are given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which also awards the Oscars at a separate ceremony two weeks later. These awards are for the men, women and companies whose technical innovations and discoveries have made a significant contribution to the film industry.
Well done to the whole Flying-Cam team for this fine achievement!
